[PROBLEMS] To provide an insect-repellent utensil which contains an active ingredient volatile at ordinary temperatures, permits effective vaporization of the active ingredient, and is easy of production; and a process for the production of the utensil. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] An insect-repellent utensil (1) from which an insect-repellent active ingredient can be vaporized by fanning, which is constituted of a frame member (2), a plane-constituent member (3) fixed on the frame member (2), and a coating layer (12) formed by surface finishing such as varnishing in such a way as to cover the whole surface of the plane-constituent member (3). The coating layer (12) contains an insect repellent containing an active ingredient volatile at ordinary temperatures and the active ingredient can vaporize from the layer (12) to exert an insect-repellent effect. The coating layer (12) is formed by surface finishing with a surface finishing agent containing an insect repellent.
