Abstract:
The insert according to the present disclosure comprises a boron nitride sintered body having a first face. The X-ray intensity at the apex of a peak of 111 diffraction of cubic boron nitride in a direction perpendicular to the first face in transmission X-ray diffraction performed on a cross-section of the boron nitride sintered body perpendicular to the first face is defined as IcBN(111)v. The X-ray intensity at the apex of a peak of 002 diffraction of compressed boron nitride is defined as IhBN(002)v. The X-ray intensity at the apex of a peak of 111 diffraction of cubic boron nitride in a direction parallel to the first face is defined as IcBN(111)h. The X-ray intensity at the apex of a peak of 002 diffraction of compressed boron nitride is defined as IhBN(002)h. The value of a compressed boron nitride content calculated from these X-ray intensities is greater than 0.005. The orientation value of the cubic system is greater than 0.5, and the orientation value of compressed boron nitride is greater than the orientation value of the cubic system.
