Abstract:
An instrument and method for counting microbial cells, which relate to the field of cell counting. A traditional automatic intermittent counting process is changed into a continuous counting process, and cell sap fixed within a blood cell plate in a traditional counter is changed into cell sap that flows in a microchannel, increasing the time and distance of cell detection; the size of the microchannel is slightly greater than the diameter of a microbial cell, guaranteeing that the cells flow through the cross section of the microchannel one by one; meanwhile, since the diameter of a counterbore that is in communication with the microchannel is slightly greater than the width of the microchannel, the flow rate of the cell sap when flowing to the counterbore decreases. In one aspect, the present invention is beneficial to the detection of cell size and number, and in another aspect, an impurity in the cell sap is separated from the cells so as to avoid an error caused by the impurity. In addition, by controlling the flipping process of a micromirror in a DMD, the cell state within each "grid" of the channel may be promptly detected, achieving accurate cell counting, detecting the size of each cell in real time, and providing a distribution map of detected cell sizes.
