Abstract:
In an induction heating coil for use in continuous heating of a steel plate while
passing the steel plate, the conventional induction heating coil has an insulating
structure which has been selected while taking mainly into consideration heat
resistance and insulating properties of an insulator per se. In the conventional
induction heating coil, a lowering in insulating properties caused by the entry
of metallic fine particles (for example, zinc fume) in an atmosphere cannot be
prevented. This invention provides an insulating structure for an induction
heating coil, which can prevent the entry of metallic fine particles such as zinc
fume, does not undergoes a lowering in strength even under a high-temperature
environment, and can prolong the service life of the induction coil. Specifically,
the surface of an induction heating coil is covered with a ceramic cloth of ceramic
long fibers formed of an alumina-silica material and free from boron. A heat
resistant insulating layer formed of a ceramic surface hardening material containing
fine particles of an alumina or an alumina-silica material and ceramic short
fibers formed of an alumina-silica material is additionally provided on the
surface of the ceramic cloth.
