Title:
INTERMODE LOSS DIFFERENCE COMPENSATION FIBER, OPTICAL AMPLIFIER, AND TRANSMISSION PATH DESIGN METHOD
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2020/032016
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an intermode loss difference compensation fiber, an optical amplifier, and a transmission path design method which make it possible to reduce an MDL while eliminating the need for precise alignment work by a simple structure. This intermode loss difference compensation fiber is configured to cause an excessive loss in a desired propagation mode by forming a hollow portion or a ring-shaped high refractive index portion in an optical fiber core. By providing the hollow or ring-shaped high refractive index portion in part of a profile of the core, a specific mode electric field distribution propagating through this fiber can be controlled, thereby making it possible to cause a different loss in each propagation mode at an interface between the hollow portion or ring-shaped high refractive index portion and a region not having such portion.
