Abstract:
[Problem] To provide an internal combustion engine component that has both good insulation properties and greater durability than the prior art. [Solution] The present invention relates to a component that forms an internal wall surface of a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, the component being characterized in that: (1) the component includes (a) a matrix that includes an iron constituent and (b) an insulating layer formed on the surface of the matrix; (2) the insulating layer includes (b1) an intermediate layer formed on the matrix and (b2) an outer layer formed on the intermediate layer and exposed to the combustion chamber; (3) the intermediate layer is a ferrite-containing layer with essentially no air gaps; and (4) the outer layer is a ferrite-containing layer in which roughly octahedral particles are secured so as to be three-dimensionally continuous while forming air gaps.
