The invention relates to an internal combustion engine comprising a piston injection pump for transporting fuel, said pump comprising a cylinder for receiving a reciprocating pressure piston, the front face of the pressure piston defining a pressure chamber. The edge of the front face forms a peripheral first control edge. The cylinder comprises at least one radial spill port which is located in a piston guiding section of the cylinder and can be covered at least by a second control edge of the pressure piston, formed by shaping the envelope surface of the pressure piston.
