Abstract:
An engine system (1) is provided with: an engine ECU (10) for comprehensively controlling the operation of an engine (100); a hydraulic VVT mechanism (27) configured to open an exhaust valve (23)in the intake stroke as well as in the exhaust stroke, and configured to vary the phase of opening and closing of the exhaust valve (23); a cutoff valve (163) configured to block an EGR passageway (16) connected to an exhaust manifold; and a variable nozzle vane mechanism (141) for controlling the supercharging efficiency of a turbocharger (14). The engine ECU (10) adjusts the hydraulic VVT mechanism (27) so as to open the exhaust valve (23) in the intake stroke as well as in the exhaust stroke so that part of exhaust gas from the previous cycle (internal EGR) can be introduced into the combustion chamber. The engine ECU (10) also adjusts the cutoff valve (163), the hydraulic VVT mechanism (27), and the variable nozzle vane mechanism (141) so as to control the amount of the internal EGR introduced into the combustion chamber.
