Abstract:
Engines provided with auxiliary chambers are prone to unstable combustion and the extinguishing of the fire in said auxiliary chambers in conditions when the auxiliary chamber temperature is low such as immediately after starting the engine. An ECU 2 for controlling an engine 13 equipped with a main combustion chamber which faces a piston, an auxiliary combustion chamber connected to the main combustion chamber, a spark plug attached to the interior of the auxiliary combustion chamber, and a cylinder in which an air-fuel mixture obtained by mixing fuel injected by a fuel injection device and air taken in through an induction system is combusted in the main combustion chamber and the auxiliary combustion chamber, said ECU 2 being equipped with an estimation unit 21 for estimating the wall temperature of the auxiliary combustion chamber, and a control unit 22 for controlling the engine 13 in a manner such that the auxiliary combustion chamber internal pressure is increasingly higher near the ignition timing of the engine 13 as the wall temperature of the auxiliary combustion chamber estimated by the estimation unit 21 is decreasingly lower.
