Abstract:
A control method for internal combustion engines, wherein: part of a low–intermediate engine speed/low–intermediate load region of an internal combustion engine is defined as a lean combustion region; a homogenous air-fuel mixture is formed inside a combustion chamber and homogenous combustion is performed, by performing fuel injection at least once between the intake stroke and the first half of the compression stroke, in an operation region in which the load inside the lean combustion region is relatively low; and a stratified air-fuel mixture is formed inside the combustion chamber and stratified combustion is performed, as a result of performing fuel injection at least once both between the intake stroke and the first half of the compression stroke and during the second half of the compression stroke, in an operation region in which the load inside the lean combustion region is relatively high. In this control method, the ignition energy supplied to a spark plug during stratified combustion is controlled to be smaller than the ignition energy supplied to the spark plug during homogenous combustion.
