Abstract:
A device for controlling the starting of an internal combustion engine having an expansion stroke combustion start mode in which the internal combustion engine is started by assisting the cranking of the internal combustion engine using an electric motor while the internal combustion engine is cranked using combustion pressure generated by igniting fuel supplied to an expansion stroke cylinder is provided with: a torque balance estimation unit that estimates a torque balance obtained by subtracting from a cranking torque due to the combustion pressure a resistance torque produced when the internal combustion engine is cranked; and an electric motor torque setting unit that sets an electric motor torque to be output from the electric motor on the basis of the estimated torque balance.
