Abstract:
An internal combustion engine with a turbocharger, which is capable of successfully minimizing the clogging of an exhaust gas purifying catalyst caused by manganese oxide contained in exhaust gas, is provided. A turbocharger (24), in which a turbine (24b) that is operated by the exhaust energy of the internal combustion engine (10) is provided to exhaust passages (26, 28), is provided. An upstream catalyst (30) for purifying exhaust gas is disposed on the exhaust passage (26) that is further downstream than the turbine (24b). An exhaust bypass passage (38) that bypasses the turbine (24b) is provided. A waste gate valve (40) responsible for opening and closing the exhaust bypass passage (38) is provided. The waste gate valve (40) is kept in an open state while fuel is being cut to the internal combustion engine.
