Abstract:
A 2−cycle internal combustion engine comprising a first common port (6) whose opening leading to a cylinder is provided with a first puppet valve (12) adapted to open in a crank angle range of about 90 − 270°, a second common port (7) whose opening leading to the cylinder is provided with a second puppet valve (14) adapted to open in a crank angle range of about 450 − 630°, a first switching valve (19) disposed in the connected region of the first common port (6) to which a first suction port (20) and a first exhaust port (21) are connected, which switching valve causes the first common port to communicate with the first exhaust port and then with the first suction port in the region for opening the first puppet valve, a second switching valve (23) disposed in the connected region of the second common port (7) to which a second suction port (24) and a second exhaust port (25) are connected, which switching valve causes the second common port to communicate with the second exhaust port and then with the second suction port in the region for opening the second puppet valve, wherein in the 2−cycle internal combustion engine, the need for a scavenging port in the cylinder is eliminated so as to share the cylinder with a 4−cycle internal combustion engine.
