Abstract:
[Problem] To improve thermal efficiency of an internal combustion engine having a supercharger cylinder and an expansion cylinder. [Solution] An internal combustion engine 1 having: an internal combustion engine main body 1A comprising a supercharger cylinder 8 connected to an intake passage 2 comprising a throttle valve 2C and a combustion cylinder 6 connected both to the supercharger cylinder and an exhaust passage 3; a common crank shaft 11 rotatably supported by the internal combustion engine main body and having pistons 6A, 8A each connected thereto by a connecting rod, said pistons being accomodated by the supercharger cylinder and the combustion cylinder respectively; and an EGR passage 5, 5A connected to the exhaust passage and the intake passage and supplying combusted gas to the intake passage.
