Abstract:
An internal combustion engine (23) comprises: a crank case (24) that rotatably supports a crankshaft (35); a case cover (54) that covers the side of the crank case (24) in a liquid-tight manner; a cylinder block (25) which is joined to the crank case (24), is disposed higher than an imaginary horizontal plane (HP) including a rotational axis (Xc) of the crankshaft (35), and divides a plurality of cylinders (25a, 25b) arranged in a V formation so as to intersect with each other at a bank angle; an object to be detected (56) that rotates integrally with the crankshaft (35); and a detection sensor (31) which is attached from the outer side to the crank case (24) at a position higher than the imaginary horizontal plane (HP), is made to face the trajectory of the object to be detected (56), and generates a pulse signal in accordance with the movement of the object to be detected (56). Thereby provided is a structure for arranging a detection sensor that can detect the angular speed of a crankshaft with high accuracy in a "V-type" internal combustion engine.
