Abstract:
This internal combustion engine (10) is configured to comprise: an abnormality determination device that determines whether any one of a plurality of sensors required for controlling a flowrate ratio adjustment valve (14A) is abnormal or not; and an avoidance control device which performs control, when one of the plurality of sensors has been determined as abnormal by the abnormality determination device, so as to avoid the occurrence of thermal damage or unstable combustion of the flowrate ratio adjustment valve (14A) for adjusting a flowrate ratio (R) of the flowrate of an EGR gas flowing through an EGR cooler (15) to the total flowrate of the EGR gas flowing through EGR piping (13), on the basis of the temperature of the EGR gas on a downstream side from an EGR valve (14B) of the EGR piping (13), the temperature being detected by an EGR gas temperature detection device (17).
