Abstract:
An ion generator (1) comprising an electrical cleaning mechanism (79) for burning out contaminants adhering to an ion generating electrode (7) by electrical heating. When contaminants adhere to the forward end part of an electrode where an ion generating field concentrates, ion generation efficiency is damaged significantly. The electrical cleaning mechanism (79) for burning out contaminants adhering to the forward end part (7a) of the ion generating electrode (7) is extremely effective for preventing such a trouble. When contaminants adhering to the sharp forward end part of the electrode (7) and contributing to ion generation are removed selectively, the purpose of cleaning can be accomplished sufficiently. Furthermore, the ion generator can be simplified because the electrical cleaning mechanism does not require a high electrical heat generation power.
