Title:
IONISATION OF AIR FOR THERAPEUTIC PURPOSES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2000/032269
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Apparatus is provided for treatment of asthma and related disorders which comprises a chamber (10) having a magnetic field located between the inlet (12) and the outlet (20) of the chamber, the outlet being adapted to be taken in the mouth of the patient for drawing air. The magnetic field is produced by a magnet (16) placed in a compartment (14).

Description:
IONISATION OF AIR FOR THERAPEUTIC PURPOSES TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to the ionisation of air for the treatment of asthma and related disorders as well as many other applications both therapeutic and other.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The treatment of asthma consists largely in the use of bronchial dilators and expectorants, whose action facilitates easier breathing. Desensitising agents are also used to pre-empt the so-called"trigger mechanisms"which cause bronchial spasm. These treatments are, in essence, more of a crisis management rather than a permanent solution.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a more permanent beneficial treatment than before.

DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION According to the invention a device is provided which permits air to be drawn therethrough, and magnetic means is located in the path of the air so that the treated air can be drawn into the mouth or nose of a patient.

Dramatic results have been obtained by the use of the device of the invention, especially when sucked into the mouth by a patient suffering from asthma or other respiratory complaints.

It is believed that the magnetic means causes at least some of the air to be ionized and the dramatic results are due to the increased ability of the lungs to transfer oxygen to the blood.

It is recommend that the patient should breathe in deeply through the device and hold the breath for as long as possible, creating a natural pressure which maximises the beneficial effect of the treated air.

Apart from the increased oxygen intake, the use of the device so used causes an improvement in the natural pressurising technique which strengthen lung tissue and improving lung capacity.

The device of the invention may also include a source of an aromotherapeutic substance which assist in the initial stages in the breakdown of mucus in the lungs.

The device may be a simple chamber having an inlet for air and an outlet associated with a magnet, such as a permanent magnet between the inlet and the outlet, but not limited to any particular shape.

EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a cross sectional side view of a device according to the invention.

In the drawing, a device comprises a chamber 10 having an inlet 12 which tapers inwardly, a compartment 14 which supports a magnet 16 and which permits passage of air therepast an outlet 20 with mouthpiece 21 for the patient to draw the ionised air into the mouth. A cap 22 completes the device which is lightweight, easy carry and easy to use.

Four or more treatments a day are suggested and exciting results have been obtained in clinical trials.

1. Master S of 7 years suffering from chronic asthma used a device according to the invention several times a day for about 30 seconds increasing to 50 seconds with occasional 60 second inhalations. His condition has improved out all recognition and he has been able to discard his previous inhaler.

2. Mister R suffered from emphasemia for over two years and was forced to have medication every day. After using the device of the invention for three weeks he already started to enjoy easier breathing and has been able to half his medication rate.

3. Mrs M was a chronic asthmatic who suffered from wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, tiredness and loss of weight due to severe asthma attacks after cessation of cortisone treatment. All of these symptoms have reduced dramatically after a few weeks of using the device of the invention.
