Abstract:
An IPv6 packet processing method and apparatus. In the method, a first routing device obtains an IPv6 packet, and sends the IPv6 packet to a routing deice of a next hop, the IPv6 packet comprising an IPv6 extended header, the IPv6 extended header comprising preamble general indication information, the preamble general indication information comprising first information, the first information being used for indicating only processing the IPv6 packet on a data plane of the routing device and not sending up to a CPU. Therefore, after a second routing device receives the IPv6 packet, the IPv6 packet is processed on the data plane, so that the processing efficiency of the IPv6 packet is improved.
