Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for manufacturing an iron-based sintered alloy characterized by being equipped with a molding step wherein a starting material powder of a mixture of an Fe-based powder and a reinforcing powder is compression molded to form a powder compact, and a sintering step wherein this powder compact is heated and sintered in an antioxidant atmosphere, with the reinforcing powder being an Fe-Mn-Si-C powder comprised of an Fe alloy or an Fe compound that contains 58-70% Mn, Si resulting in a composition ratio of Mn to Si (Mn/Si) of 3.3-4.6, and 1.5-3% C. This Fe-Mn-Si-C powder can be procured relatively inexpensively, and various characteristics of an iron-based sintered alloy obtained using said powder are superior to those of a conventional iron-based sintered alloy. Accordingly, a reduction in the cost of a Cu-free iron-based sintered alloy the various characteristics of which are excellent is achieved.
