Abstract:

One embodiment of the present invention pertains to an iron-based sintered member having a metal structure that includes an iron base and pores distributed in the iron base. The iron-based sintered member contains iron, 0.1-3.5 mass% of carbon, aluminum, sodium, and sulfur. The aluminum, sodium, and sulfur are concentrated in the surfaces of the iron base in contact with the pores, and free carbon is included within the pores.
