Abstract:
Provided is an iron powder for a dust core. The iron powder makes it possible to produce a dust core that has low iron loss and, in particular, has low hysteresis loss. An iron powder wherein, when the crystal orientation of a cross section of a powder compact that is molded at a molding pressure of 0.98 GN/m2 is measured using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), the average KAM value as calculated using EBSD analysis software is 3.00° or less, the iron powder being suitable for use as a source material powder for a low-iron-loss dust core that has an iron loss of under 80 W/kg. The iron powder has a particle size distribution that is adjusted such that particles that have a particle diameter of 45 μm or less are 10 mass% or less, the average hardness of the powder particles of the iron powder, expressed as Vickers hardness, is 80 HV 0.025 or less, the product of the number (per m2) of inclusions per unit area of the powder particles and the median diameter (D50) (m) of the inclusions is 10000 (per m) or less, and the apparent density of the iron powder is 4.0 Mg/m3 or more.
