Abstract:
An iron powder for an exothermic composition according to the present invention has a bulk density of 0.3-1.5 g/cm3. An exothermic composition according to the present invention contains said iron powder, a carbon material, a halide salt, and water. An exothermic body production method according to the present invention comprises: forming a coated body by applying, to a base material sheet, a fluidic exothermic composition containing said iron powder, a carbon material, and water; and adjusting the water content of the coated body by removing water from the coated body. The present invention also relates to a method for producing said iron powder (iron powder for an exothermic composition), said method comprising: a reduction step for obtaining reduced iron by reducing an iron oxide; and a step for pulverizing said reduced iron. At the reduction step, the iron oxide and a solid reductant having a volatile-element content of at least 10 mass% are introduced into a heating furnace, the interior of which is free from sulfur gas and which has an air or inert gas atmosphere, and said iron oxide is reduced by heat-treating under a condition that brings the temperature of the interior atmosphere to 900-1000°C so as to turn the interior of the furnace into a reducing gas atmosphere.
