Abstract:
This irradiation probe is, for instance, an irradiation probe comprising an optical fiber that has, as at least a partial segment in the longitudinal direction, a leak segment where leak light is output radially outward, wherein: the optical fiber has, in the leak segment, a scattering region where the leak light is produced by scattering of light in a prescribed range in the circumferential direction of the fiber; and in the intensity distribution of the leak light in the circumferential direction in a cross-section that intersects the axial direction of the leak segment, directionality is such that the intensity of the leak light in two radial directions that are roughly antiparallel to each other is greater than the intensity of the leak light in other radial directions. Moreover, in the irradiation probe, the intensity of the leak light in one of the two roughly antiparallel radial directions and the intensity of the leak light in the other of the two roughly antiparallel radial directions can mutually differ.
