Abstract:
This isolator is provided, on a substrate that has a substrate surface, with a first waveguide and a second waveguide, which are disposed along the substrate surface, and which overlap with each other when viewed from the substrate side. Each of the first waveguide and the second waveguide comprises a core and a cladding. The core has a first surface that faces the substrate surface and a second surface that is on the reverse side of the first surface. The cladding is disposed so as to be in contact with the first surface and the second surface of the core. The first waveguide has a first end and a second end, and comprises ports, through which electromagnetic waves are inputted/outputted, at the first end and the second end, respectively. The core of the second waveguide contains a non-reciprocal member in at least a part of a cross-section that intersects with the direction in which the second waveguide extends.
