Abstract:
A journal bearing configured in such a manner that lubricating oil is reliably supplied to the bearing surfaces of tilting pads. This is achieved without reducing the strength and size of the journal bearing and without sacrificing the easiness of assembly of the journal bearing. A journal bearing (10) is provided with a bearing base (20), an annular bearing housing (30) supported at load support sections (33) thereof by the bearing base, pads (40a-40d) rockably mounted in the bearing housing and supporting a journal (j) in a self-aligning manner, and an oil supply mechanism for supplying lubricating oil to bearing surfaces (48) of the pads. The journal bearing (10) is also provided with a connecting section (62) for connecting the bearing base (20) and the bearing housing (30) to each other at a position circumferentially shifted from a load support section (33), and also with oil supply holes (62a, 64) formed in the connecting section, the oil supply holes connecting to each other an upstream oil supply path (60) in the bearing base (20) and a downstream oil supply path (66) in the bearing housing (30). The load of the bearing housing (30) applied to the bearing base (20) through the connecting section (62) is less than the load applied to the bearing base (20) through the load support sections (33).
