Abstract:
A key controller for vehicles for controlling apparatuses mounted on a car in accordance with the kind of a car key. When an ignition key is inserted (100), the kind of the ignition key is recognized (102) based on inherent codes of ignition keys. When it is a sub-key (negated at 104), the operation of a memory function is inhibited, in other words, read and change of set values are inhibited (106). When it is a main key (affirmed at 104), the operation of the memory function is permitted (108), setting of the memory allotted to each key is read (110), the set values of a seat position, a tilt, a telescopic antenna, etc., are set in each ECU (112) and an engine operation is started (114, 116). Because the operation of the memory function by only a main key is permitted, the apparatuses are set to the optimum condition of the driver keeping the main key, and the setting is not changed by means of a sub-key.
