Claims:
CLAIMS

1. A kit for a modular structure comprising:

a) a plurality of back panels,

b) a plurality of side panels,

c) a plurality of engagement members each adapted to releasably secure at least three edges of back or side panels together so that they pivot relative to each other, and

d) a table member releasably positionable for use between opposing side panels.

2. A kit according to claim 1, wherein the side and back panels have legs to support panels off the ground.

3. A kit according to claim 2, wherein the legs are of adjustable length.

4. A kit according to claim 2 or 3, wherein the legs extend from edges of each panel.

5. A kit according to claim 2, 3, or 4, wherein panels have a rectangular planar core member and hollow extrusions connected to the edges of the core member through which legs extend.

6. A kit according to claim 5, wherein the core member is a blow moulding.

7. A kit according to any preceding claim, wherein the panels include one or more projections extending above side edges of each panel member.

8. A kit according to any preceding claim, wherein the engagement members include at least three radially spaced clips which engage with edge of panels.

9. A kit according to claim 8 as dependent on claims 2 to 6 and 7, wherein the clips are C-clips which engage with said projections or with the legs.

10. A kit according to claim 8 or 9, wherein the clips are provided on the periphery of a circular frame.

11. A kit according to claim 10, wherein four clips are provided radially spaced on the circular frame.

12. A kit according to any preceding claim, wherein the table member engages with a bracket extending from the side members.

13. A kit according to any preceding claim, wherein the table member may secure side panels at an angle normal to a back panel.

14. A kit according to any preceding claim, wherein support members are provided to span between side panels so that the side panels taper inwards towards a back panel.

15. A kit according to claim 14, wherein the support members carry a table member.

16. A kit according to any preceding claim, wherein the side panels and back panels are identical in shape.

17. A kit according to any of claims 2 to 16, wherein the legs are connected at their lower end to a tie member.

18. A kit for a modular structure substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.

19. A voting or privacy booth made by the kit as defined in any preceding claim.

Description:
TITLE: Kit for Modular Structure

The present invention relates to a kit for a modular structure, especially a voting booth or other privacy booth.

According to the present invention there is provided a kit for a modular structure comprising: a) a plurality of back panels,

b) a plurality of side panels,

c) a plurality of engagement members each adapted to releasably secure at least three edges of back or side panels together so that they pivot relative to each other, and

d) a table member releasably positionable for use between opposing side panels.

Preferably the side and back panels have legs to support panels off the ground. The legs may be of adjustable length. Preferably the legs extend from edges of each panel. Preferably panels have a rectangular planar core member and hollow extrusions connected to the edges of the core member through which legs extend.

The core member may be a blow moulding.

The panels may include one or more projections extending above side edges of each panel member. Preferably the engagement members include at least three radially spaced clips which engage with edge of panels. The clips may be C-clips which engage with said projections or with the legs.

Preferably the table member engages with a bracket extending from the side members. The table member may secure side panels at an angle normal to a back panel.

Preferably support members are provided to span between side panels so that the side panels taper inwards towards a back panel. The support members may carry a table member.

Preferably the clips are provided on the periphery of a circular frame. Four clips may be provided radially spaced on the circular frame.

Preferably the side panels and back panels are identical in shape.

Preferably the legs are connected at their lower end to a tie member.

An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings in which:

Figure 1 shows the components in the kit,

Figure 2A shows a standard voting booth, Figure 2B shows a voting booth for disabled persons, and

Figure 3 shows a plan view of alternative constructions of multiple voting booths.

Referring to Figure 1 there is shown one of each type of component in a kit for a modular structure in the form of a voting booth.

A side or back panel 1 is provided. Panel 1 has a rectangular core member 2 which may typically be blow moulded from plastics. Secured to the long edges of panel 1 are a pair of hollow extrusions 3,4. At the top of each extrusion 3,4 is a removable cylindrical projection 3A,4A, whereby the projections extend above the side edges of a panel.

A pair of tubular legs 5,6 slide in and out of the extrusions 3,4 with a friction fit, and the legs are connected at their lower end to a tie member 7. Legs 5,6 can slide fully into the hollow extrusions 3,4 or can be withdrawn fully with spring-loaded indexing pins 5A,6A engaging apertures 3B,4B in extrusions 3,4 (as shown), or can be withdrawn partially with spring-loaded indexing pins 5B,6B engaging apertures 3B,4B in extrusions 3,4.

A pair of brackets 8A,8B project from one face of panel 1. Brackets 8A,8B may be removable. A table member 10 is provided with recesses 11 A, 1 IB or 12A.12B to receive brackets 8A,8B from a pair of opposing panels forming side panels (see Figure 2A). The table member may secure side panels at an angle normal to a back panel. Support members 21,22 of different length are provided to span between side panels so that the side panels taper inwards towards a back panel. Support members have rings 21A,21B and 22A,22B to engage of the brackets 8A,8B. The support members are designed to carry a table member 10 (see Figure 2B).

A plurality of plastics engagement members 30 are each adapted to releasably secure four edges of back or side panels together so that they pivot relative to each other. Engagement member 30 comprises four clips 31A,31B,31C,31D radially spaced on a circular frame 32. Each clip is of a size to grip around a leg 5 or 6 or a projection 3A,4A.

Referring now to Figure 2A there is shown a standard voting booth (or other privacy booth) 40. Booth 40 has three panels 1 identified as back panel 1A and side panels 1B,1C. The panels 1A,1B,1C are held together with four engagement members 30. A table member 10 secured to brackets 8A,8B on opposing side panels 1B,1C keeps the side panels 1B,1C at right angles to back panel 1A and helps make the structure rigid. Legs 5,6 from each panel are fully withdrawn keeping the panels and table member at full height off the floor so that table member 10 is at waist height to a person standing.

Referring now to Figure 2B there is shown a disabled voting booth (or other privacy booth) 50. Booth 50 has three panels 1 identified as back panel 1A and side panels 1B,1C. The panels 1 A,1B,1C are held together with four engagement members 30. Support members 21,22 have their rings 21A,21B and 22A,22B secured to brackets 8A,8B on opposing side panels 1B,1C. Support members 21,22 of different length span between side panels so that the side panels 1B,1C taper inwards towards back panel 1A and helps make the structure rigid. Table member 10 is placed on the support members 21,22. Legs 5,6 from each panel are partially withdrawn keeping the panels and table member at reduced height off the floor so that table member 10 is at chest height to a person in a wheelchair. The tapered panels allow a wheelchair to pass under the table member 10.

The kit of the invention may be used to erect single booths such as shown in Figure 2A, or may be used to erect multiple booths, examples of which are shown in Figures 3A,3B.

It is envisaged that an interested party would purchase a plurality of each of the different parts shown in Figure 1 and erect booths or other structures as required. It will be appreciated that the side panels can fold relative to back panels by virtue of the securement members so that a single booth can fold flat. The panel members also stack as they are flat.

Whilst the side panels and back panel are shown as the same, side panels could be of a different size to back panels.

A curtain could be provided between front edges of side panels of a booth. The invention may take form different to that specifically described above. The kit may be used to provide structures other than voting or privacy booths. Whilst the engagement member is shown with four clips to connect four edges of panels together, it could have only three to connect three edges of panels together. Also the table could be hinged to a panel rather than being removable, and could be folded against a panel when not in use.

Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
