Disclosed is a knitting method, which, in order to obtain a figure-hugging shape, increases the number of stitches in the garment body, and makes armholes substantially circular to increase the circumference thereof without increasing the shoulder width, and which efficiently increases the number of stitches. Also disclosed is a knitwear item obtained through said method, which has a figure-hugging shape and has a body and sleeves which are provided with arm holes. The knitting method for said knitwear item uses a weft knitting machine and consists of: a step whereby the sleeve stitches and the stitches near the edge of the body are shifted towards the outside of the sleeve and a yarn over stitch is created in the knit-width of the body, increasing the knit-width; a step whereby the aforementioned yarn over stitch is filled, increasing the number of stitches and a step whereby the stitches near the edge of the body and the stitches which pile up in the body when the sleeves are reduced are joined.
