Abstract:
To display the number of labels unused, a label roll comprising a release paper
and labels adhered to the front surface of the release paper and having a predetermined
length of bar-code printed on the back surface of the release paper from the leading
end of the release paper is used. Before the mode of the printer is changed to a printing
mode, the printer operates in a bar code information reading mode. In the reading
mode, the release paper is fed without printing, the bar-code information is
read, and the value is displayed. Information on the number of labels printable
is read twice, and the read results are checked with each other. If they match each
other, the information is displayed on a display section. Each time a label is
printed, the number of labels printable is updated, and the number of labels remaining
is displayed. Since the result of subtraction is displayed, the user can know
the number of printable labels or the number of printed labels. When the label
at the trailing end of the release paper is detected, a message to the effect that
the label roll with release paper needs to be replaced is displayed to prompt the
user to replace the label roll.
