Disclosed are a laundry treating apparatus and a control method thereof. The laundry treating apparatus comprises a washing device and a drying device. The washing device comprises a water heater used for heating washing water. The drying device comprises a heat pump system used for heating drying air and an auxiliary heating device. When a washing water heating procedure and a drying procedure need to be performed simultaneously, the laundry treating apparatus controls the on and off of the water heater, the heat pump system, and the auxiliary heating device and/or adjusts the power to meet overall power requirements of the laundry treating apparatus. By using the technical solution of the present invention, a user can simultaneously issue or additionally issue at any time different heating instructions, so that the laundry treating apparatus can automatically control the execution of the heating control instructions issued by the user. Therefore, the safe operation of the laundry treating apparatus within rated power is ensured, and the safety of the user is ensured.
