Abstract:
Disclosed is a layered piezoelectric element which has increased durability and which decreases and disperses over a layered body stress generated at border sections between an active region and inactive regions. The layered piezoelectric element (1) includes a layered body (5), wherein a plurality of piezoelectric layers (2) and internal electrode layers (3a, 3b) are alternately layered, and external electrodes (4a, 4b) are attached to a pair of opposite faces of the layered body (5), each connecting to either a first set (3a) or a second set (3b) of the internal electrode layers (3a, 3b). The area between a first external electrode (4a), which connects to the first set of internal electrode layers (3a), and the second set of internal electrode layers (3b) is insulated and forms an inactive region (A2). In the inactive region (A2), the width (w) of the space between the first external electrode (4a) and the second set of internal electrode layers (3b) is smaller at the ends of the layered body (5) in the direction of layering than the center.
