Abstract:
Disclosed is an edge-lit LED backlight with an LED light source positioned on a side section of a light guiding plate. The emission luminance of the LED light source is not readily altered by heat generated during LED light emission and the LED light source does not emit a different color wavelength even if another light is radiated. In order to provide a liquid crystal display device that is provided with this backlight to suppress reduction in the radiation efficiency and chromatic variation, the edge-lit LED backlight with the LED light source positioned on a side section of the light guiding plate uses an LED light source (2) obtained by sealing with a transparent resin (23) a monochromatic LED chip (21) that emits light of a predetermined color and forms a reflective surface pattern (SP) on the light guiding plate surface by the use of an ink material containing a phosphor that is excited by a predetermined color.
