Disclosed are a level detection system for an incineration hopper, and a method for using the same. The system comprises a hopper and a level detection probe. The hopper is a funnel-shaped container having a narrow end pointing downward, and an opening provided at the top. An inner wall of the hopper is metal. The level detection probe is provided at a diagonal to an upper side of the hopper, and faces the inner wall of the hopper. The level detection probe emits a signal beam toward the inner wall of the hopper, and determines the level in the hopper according to the signal strength of a beam reflected by the inner wall. The advantage of the present invention is that the metal inner wall of the hopper has strong and consistent reflectance unlike a low-reflectivity material, such as household waste or plant stalks, and therefore, detecting the level in the hopper by means of detecting the coverage of the inner wall prevents measurement errors caused by the weak and inconsistent reflectance of low-reflectivity materials.
