BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION THIS invention relates to a licence disc holder having a pull away formation for accessing an information pouch. More specifically, the invention relates to licence disc holder having a pull away formation for pulling the licence disc holder from a windscreen of a vehicle to access the pouch containing medical and/or personal information of a regular driver and/or passengers of the vehicle where, for example, the driver and/or passengers are incapacitated at the scene of an accident.

Many types of licence disc holders having pouches or pockets for receiving documents other than a licence permit or disc are known. However, these pouches or pockets are often not sealed and any information stored therein is accessible to anyone travelling in the vehicle, without the driver and/or passengers ever becoming aware of such information being accessed.

It is common knowledge that a person's medical information may be very sensitive, for example, where that particular person is HIV positive. Information such as a person's HIV status is kept typically kept very confidential by the affected person due to fear of becoming outcast or ridiculed. Having said that, it is critical that medical information, such as HIV status and/or whether a person is on private medical insurance, is readily available at the scene of an accident where the driver and/or passengers are incapable of providing the information.

It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a licence disc holder having an information pouch and a pull away formation for pulling the licence disc holder from the windscreen of a vehicle to access the information pouch containing personal and/or medical information for emergency purposes only. Although the invention in this specification is described as a holder of a licence disc, it will be appreciated that the invention may be a holder for any similar object, for example a tax disc, a M.O.T disc, an insurance disc or a disc simply containing important information such as medical aid information or membership to a emergency service.

A licence disc holder according to a preferred embodiment of the invention is designated generally in the accompanying figures with reference numeral 10. The licence disc holder 10 comprises a sheet-like body 12 having a main section 14 divided from a first folding section 16 by a first fold line 20. Figures A and 1 C show front and rear views respectively of the licence disc holder 10 prior to being folded into an "in use" configuration. The first folding section 16 is foldable about the first folding line 18 so as to lie over and against the main section 14 as shown Figures 1 B and 1 D illustrating front and rear views respectively of the licence disc holder 10 after being folded into the "in use" configuration.

With specific reference to figure 1C, the licence disc holder 10 comprises a primary adhesive securing area 20 defined on the main section 14 substantially between an outer boundary 14A of the main section 14 and the outer boundary 16A of the first folding section 16. In the preferred embodiment illustrated in the accompanying figures, and specifically to figure 3 and figure 4, the outer boundary 16A of the first folding section 16 is smaller than the diameter of a licence disc 100 thereby to adhesively secure at least the edges of the licence disc 100 to the primary adhesive securing area 20 and substantially over the first folding section 16.

The outer boundary 14A of the main section 14 is preferably greater than the diameter of the licence disc 100 for adhering the primary adhesive securing area 20 to a windscreen 102 of a vehicle 104 thereby to adhesively secure the licence disc holder 10 to the windscreen 102 and capture the licence disc 100 there between as illustrated in figure 2.

A pouch 22 is formed between the main section 14 and the licence disc 100 adhesively secured thereto, for storing one or more objects and/or information therein. In the illustrated embodiment, the pouch 22 substantially stores the first folding section 16 and the indicia 24 presented thereon, the indicia 24 being personal and/or medical details of a regular driver and/or passengers of the vehicle, or indicia prompting the user to manually insert relevant personal and/or medical details of the driver and/or passengers of the vehicle. It will be appreciated that as a result of the first folding section 16 being stored within the pouch 22, the personal and/or medical details indicia 24 is conceal from view within the pouch 22.

The licence disc holder 0 further includes a pull away formation 26 being that portion of the folded-over first folding section 16 located at and/or near the first fold line 18, the pull away formation 16 being adhesively unsecured to the windscreen 102 and accessible to a user's fingers for gripping and pulling the licence disc holder 10, or at least a part thereof, from the windscreen 102 to access the personal and/or medical details indicia 24 stored in the pouch 22. It will be appreciated that the sheet-like body 12 comprises a first surface 28 and a second opposing surface 30, with the first surface 28 being adapted to receive the personal and/or medical details indicia 24 and instructional, informational, advertising and/or branding indicia 32 thereon. The second popping surface 30 is typically coated with an adhesive layer covered temporarily by a peel-away section (not shown), which in use, and after being peeled away, exposes the adhesive layer for adhering the first folding section 16 thereto and as a result, defining the primary adhesive securing area 20 between the outer boundaries 14A.16A of the main section 14 and the first folding section 16 respectively. It will be appreciated that from a cost point of view, it is beneficial to print the indicia 24,32 only on one side. As such, and to ensure that the indicia 24,32 reads right-way- up in the "in use" configuration illustrated in figures 1 C and 1 D, the indicia 24,32 presented on sections of the first surface 28 separated by the first fold line 18 must be printed up-side-down with respect to one another as illustrated in figure 1A.

The main section 14 and the first folding section 16 are spaced by a bridging member, which in the illustrated embodiment is the pull away formation 26 doubling as the bridging member, the bridging member extending between the main section 14 and the first folding section 16 such that a common boundary is defined between the main section 14 and the pull away formation 26. Typically, the common boundary is the first folding line 18 and the bridging member is configured with respect to the main section 14 and the first folding section 16 such that in the folded "in use" configuration, the first folding section 16 lies concentrically over the main section 14. Preferably, the main section 14 and the first folding section 16 are circular in shape.

Figure 5A and 5B illustrate an alternative embodiment of the licence disc holder 210 having a sheet-like body 212 with a first surface 228 and a second opposing surface 230, the second opposing surface 230 being divided by a frangible line 234 into a remaining section 236 and a peel-away section (not shown) for in use, and after being peeled away, exposing a primary adhesive securing area 220. It will be appreciated that the frangible line 234 may be formed through a kiss-cut type process.

The primary adhesive securing area 220 is defined substantially between an outer boundary of the licence disc holder 21 OA and the frangible line 234. The frangible line 234, and more specifically its diameter, is smaller than the diameter of a licence disc 00 thereby to adhesively secure at the edges of the licence disc 100 to the primary adhesive securing area 220 and substantially over the remaining section 236 and the indicia 224 thereon. The outer boundary 210A of the licence disc holder 210 is greater than the diameter of the licence disc 100 for adhering the primary adhesive securing area 220 to a windscreen 102 of a vehicle 104 thereby to adhesively secure the licence disc holder 210 to the windscreen 102 and capture the licence disc 100 there between. It will be appreciated that, and as is the case with the preferred embodiment of the licence disc holder 10, a pouch (not shown) will in use be formed between the licence disc 100 and licence disc holder 210. Furthermore, the licence disc holder 210 includes a pull away formation 226, being that portion of the remaining section 236 located at and/or near a boundary length 238 common to the remaining section 236 and the outer boundary 21 OA of the licence disc holder 210. The pull away formation 226 is adhesively unsecured to the windscreen 102 and accessible to a user's fingers for gripping and pulling the licence disc holder 210, or at least a part thereof, from the windscreen 102 to access the indicia 224 presented on the remaining section 236.

Although the invention has been described above with reference to preferred embodiments, it will be appreciated that many modifications or variations of the invention are possible without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.

For example, the personal and/or medical details indicia or indicia prompting the user to manually insert relevant personal and/or medical details of the driver and/or passengers of the vehicle may be concealable by the folding over of the first folding section over the main section in use. Furthermore, the first folding section may be foldable over the main section in such a manner that at least portions of the personal and/or medical details indicia remain viewable.
