A lid (1) for covering a container for beverages or food, the lid (1) comprising a body (2) wherein said body (2) includes a lower face (3), an upper face (4) and a peripheral zone (5), the peripheral zone (5) being adapted to overlap on the opening of said container; and the lower face (3) including a vertex (6), which is vertically projected in a direction that is opposite to that of the upper face (4); wherein the lower face (3) is a surface selected from the group consisting in a convex surface, a conical surface and a pyramidal surface; wherein said vertex (6) is situated in a level below the plane (7) which includes the border of the opening of the container; and wherein the lower face (3) has an inclination which begins on the intersection of the periphery of the lower face (3) with the internal side face of the border (9) and extends to the vertex (6); the peripheral zone (5) including a border (9), which is adapted to juxtapose on the external periphery of the border of the opening of said container; wherein the height of the border (9) is greater or equal to the height of the vertex (6), whereby said heights are measured in relation to the plane (7) which includes the border of the opening of the container.
