Abstract:
A lid opener includes a handle and an opening mechanism extending from the handle. The opening mechanism includes at least two projection members. Each of the projection members extends from the handle at an angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of the handle, and the projection members are spaced apart from each other for insertion of a lid between first and second adjacent projection members. A lid opener mount may also be included to couple the lid opener to a surface.

AMENDED CLAIMS

received by the International Bureau on 02 March 2015 (02.03.15)

1. A lid opener, comprising:

a handle;

an opening mechanism extending from the handle, the opening mechanism comprising at least two projection members configured to engage a portion of a lid,

wherein at least one of the projection members extends from the handle at a non-zero angle with respect to the handle.

2. The lid opener of claim 1, wherein one of the projection members extends from the handle along a longitudinal axis of the handle.

3. The lid opener of claim 1, wherein the at least rwo projection members form an opening configured to engage the portion of the lid.

4. The lid opener of claim 1, wherein the ai least two projection members comprises a first projection member and a second projection member and an angle between the first and second projection members is substantially 180°.

5. The lid opener of claim 4, wherein the at least two projection members further comprises a third projection member disposed between the first and second projection members and an angle between the third projection member and each of the first and second projection members is substantially 90°.

6. The lid opener of claim 1, wherein the at least two projection members comprises a first projection member and a second projection member and an angle between the first and second projection members is less than 90º.

The lid opener of claim 1 , wherein the at leas: two projection- members consists of first, second, and third projection members, and the first projection member extends outward from the handle in a first direction at a first angle, the second projection member extends outward from the handle in a second direction at a second angle, and a third projection member extends outward from the from the handle in a third direction and between the first and second projection members.

8. The lid opener of claim 7, wherein the third projection member is substantially perpendicular to at least one of the first and second projection members.

9. The lid opener of claim 7, wherein the first direction is a downward direction and the first angle is about a 60° angle from a first side of the handle.

10. The lid opener of claim 9, wherein the second direction is an upward direction and the second angle is about a 120° angle from a second side of the handle, wherein the second side of the handle is opposite the first side of the handle.

1 1. The lid opener of claim 1 , wherein corners between each of the projection members and between the projection members and the handle are filleted.

12. The lid opener of claim 1 , wherein the handle and the opening mechanism are a unitary device.

13. The lid opener of claim 1 , wherein the opening mechanism further comprises a rigid core and the handle comprises a grip overmolded around the core.

14. The lid opener of claim 13, wherein the grip comprises at least one of plastic, rubber, urethanes, thennosets or a combination thereof.

15. The lid opener of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the projection members is adjustable with respect to the handle.

16. A lid opener, comprising:

a handle; and

a head mechanism, comprising:

a first prong extending in a first direction at a first angle;

a second prong extending in a second direction at a second angle, the second direction being opposite the first direction; and a third prong extending in a third direction, the third prong extending between the first and second prongs,

wherein the first direction is a downward direction with respect to a first side of the handle.

17. The lid opener of claim 16, wherein the first angle is a substantially 60° angle from a first side of the handle.

18. The lid opener of claim 17, wherein the second direction is an upward direction and the second angle is a substantially 120° angle from a second side of the handle, wherein the second side of the handle is opposite the first side of the handle.

19. A lid opener kit, comprising:

a lid opener, including:

a handle; and

an opening mechanism extending from the handle, the opening mechanism comprising at least two prongs configured to engage a portion of a lid, wherein at least one of the prongs extends from the handle at a non-zero angle with respect to the handle; and

a lid opener mount configured to removably couple the lid opener to a surface.

20. The kit of claim 19, wherein the lid opener and the lid opener mount are configured for a magnetic engagement.

21. A lid opener, comprising:

an elongate handle;

a head formed at a distal end of the handle and configured to engage a lid, the head comprising first, second and third prongs extending at different angles from a common vertex of a neck.

22. The lid opener of claim 21, or any other claim, wherein the first, second, and third prongs are straight.

23. The lid opener of claim 21, or any other claims, wherein the handle is substantially straight.

24. The lid opener of claim 21, or any other claim, wherein the handle is curved.

25. The lid opener of claim 21 , or any other claim, wherein:

the first prong extends from the common vertex at a first angle that is≤90 degrees with respect to the handle;

the second prong extends from the common vertex at a second angle that is≥ 90 degrees with respect to the handle; and

the third prong extends from the common vertex between the firsi and second prongs and opposite the handle.

26. The lid opener of claim 25, or any other claim, wherein an angle berween the first and second prongs is about 180 degrees.

27. The lid opener of claim 26, or any other claim, wherein an angle between the third prong and each of the first and second prongs is about 90 degrees.

28. The lid opener of claim 25, or any other claim, wherein the first angle is about a 60 degree angle from the handle.

29. The lid opener of claim 25, or any other claim, wherein the second angle is about a 120 degree angle from the handle.

30. The lid opener of claim 21 , or any other claim, wherein corners between each of the projection members and between the projection members and the handle are filleted.

31. The lid opener of claim 21 , or any other claim, wherein the handle and the head are a unitary device.

32. The lid opener of claim .21, or any other claim, wherein the head further comprises a rigid core and the handle comprises a grip over-molded around the core, and the rigid core removably inserts into the grip.

33. The lid opener of claim 32, or any other claim, wherein the grip comprises at least one of plastic, rubber, urethanes, thermosets or a combination thereof.

34. The lid opener of claim 21 , or any other claim, wherein at least one of the prongs is adjustable with respect to the handle.

35. The lid opener of claim 21, or any other claim, wherein the lid is a hinged lid and the lid opener is configured to open the lid by rotating open the lid about the hinge when the head is engaged with the lid and a force is applied to the lid via the lid opener.

36. A lid opener as shown and described.
