Abstract:
This life prediction method for an optical module (2) the optical output of which is kept constant by control of bias current to be applied to a laser diode, comprises: a first step for causing a life prediction device (1) to acquire the current value of the bias current from the optical module (2); a second step for causing the life prediction device (1) to hold an initial bias current value which is the initial current value of the bias current; a third step for causing the life prediction device (1) to calculate the number of digits of the difference value between the bias current value and the initial bias current value, and to determine whether or not an increase in the number of digits has occurred; a fourth step for causing the life prediction device (1) to calculate a time interval at which the occurrence of the increase in the number of digits is detected; and a fifth step for causing the life prediction device (1) to estimate the life of the optical module (2) by using the time interval, a first threshold, and the number of digits.
