Abstract:
Provided is a light deflection device with which a brazed-type diffraction grating can be formed while suppressing an increase in the electrode-applied voltage, by using a transverse electric field mode. A light deflection element (10) is equipped with: a pair of glass substrates (11a, 11b); a liquid crystal layer (15) sandwiched between the pair of glass substrates (11a, 11b); and multiple pattern electrodes (13) arranged on the liquid crystal layer (15) side of the glass substrate (11a), with an interlayer insulation film (12) therebetween. A drive circuit that applies voltage to the light deflection element (10) generates an electrode-applied voltage Vpixel so as to change the electrode-electrode voltage VLC incrementally in the order 0V, 3V, 6V. The electrode-applied voltage Vpixel is a mixture of a positive voltage and a negative voltage.
