Abstract:
To provide a light detection system, which reduces the optical transmission losses due to the use of an analyzer on a spacial transmission path, reduces the photodetection losses in changing the optical power level for polarization and separation, and amplifies the received optical signal without depending on an optical link. Light from a light source (11) on the transmitter is passed through a plane-of-polarization modulator (13), and the modulated light is sent through an optical fiber (12) to a photodetector (14) on the receiver. In this instance, light from a light source (17) is introduced through a predetermined route (light source 17 } mixing passage 18 } photocoupler 16 } terminal side of optical fiber 12), so that this light is mixed with the modulated light. As a result, the change in the plane of polarization of the modulated light is converted to the change in level of a beat signal corresponding to the difference in wavelength between the modulated light and the other light. Thereafter, the photodetector (14) detects the change of the optical power level of the beat signal.
