Abstract:
A light emission device is provided with a light emission element and an excitation light source element. The light emission element has a photoluminescence layer, a light transmissive layer, and a submicron structure. The submicron structure includes multiple protrusions and multiple recesses. Light emitted by the photoluminescence layer includes first light having a wavelength in the air of λa and satisfies, when the distance between the adjacent protrusions or recesses is represented by Dint and the refractive index of the photoluminescence layer with respect to the first light is represented by nwav-a, a relationship of λa/nwav-a < Dint <λa. The excitation light source element emits excited light that is introduced into the photoluminescence layer. The light emission element and the excitation light source element are integrally formed.
