Abstract:
In order to realize a light-emitting element that is highly efficient, can realize higher intensity, and emits linearly polarized light with excellent symmetry in the light distribution characteristics thereof, a light-emitting element having an active layer that generates light is disclosed that is provided with: a polarizer layer having a first region that, from among the light generated by the active layer, transmits polarized components of a first direction and reflects all other polarized components, and a second region that transmits polarized components of a second direction orthogonal to the first direction and reflects all other polarized components; a wave plate layer that has a third region and a fifth region that accept the light emitted from the first region, and a fourth region and a sixth region that accept the light emitted from the second region, and that emits the light entering the third to sixth regions as light in a uniform polarization state; and a reflecting layer that reflects the light reflected by the first region and the second region, wherein the third and fifth regions or the fourth and sixth regions have mutually orthogonal optical axes.
