Abstract:
Disclosed is a light emitting element provided with a substrate having a plurality of projecting sections that project from a first main surface; protrusions that are disposed upon the upper surface of the aforementioned projecting sections and have a material with a refractive index that is higher than the refractive index of the material of the aforementioned substrate; and an optical semiconductor layer having a first semiconductor layer, a light emitting layer, and a second semiconductor layer that are disposed in that order upon the aforementioned first main surface of the aforementioned substrate, wherein the refractive index of the material of the aforementioned first semiconductor layer is higher than the refractive index of the aforementioned protrusions, and the aforementioned projecting sections and the aforementioned protrusions are embedded between the aforementioned substrate and the optical semiconductor layer.
