Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a light modulating device wherein aggregation of anisotropic shaped particles is prevented.
Provided is a light modulation device provided with a first substrate and a second substrate disposed so as to face each other and a light modulating layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein: at least one of the first substrate and the second substrate has electrodes; a light modulating layer includes liquid crystals and anisotropic shaped particles dispersed in the liquid crystals; the liquid crystals and anisotropic shaped particles are oriented according to a voltage applied to the electrodes; and the liquid crystals and anisotropic shaped particles are a combination of materials with a shear stress of 20 Pa or less at a shear velocity of zero, calculated by linear extrapolation from measured values of shear stress at shear velocities of 32 (1/s), 40 (1/s), and 50 (1/s) obtained in shear stress tests.
