Abstract:
Provided is a light modulator which suppresses deterioration of the extinction ratio, and which further suppresses a temperature drift phenomenon. The light modulator is characterized by including: a substrate that has an electrooptic effect; a light waveguide formed in the substrate; and a control electrode to control a light wave propagating through the light waveguide, wherein the light waveguide has at least one Mach-Zehnder type light waveguides (A1-A3, B1-B3), the control electrode has DC electrodes (C1-C4) to which a DC bias is applied, wiring for supplying the DC bias to the DC electrodes crosses one of two branch waveguides of each of the Mach-Zehnder type light waveguides, and first dummy electrodes (dotted lines E5, E6) are each provided at specific positions in the other branch waveguides so as to be relatively symmetrical to the positions where the wiring crosses the one branch waveguides.
