Abstract:
A light receiving circuit is provided with a substrate and an optical waveguide element formed on the substrate. The optical waveguide element has: a first light branching unit for dividing and propagating signal light in a first signal light propagation waveguide and a second signal light propagation waveguide; a second light branching unit for branching and propagating local light in a first local light propagation waveguide and a second local light propagation waveguide; a first light combining unit for combining signal light propagated in the first signal light propagation waveguide and local light propagated in the first local light propagation waveguide, and making the same interfere with each other; a second light combining unit for combining signal light propagated in the second signal light propagation waveguide and local light propagated in the second local light propagation waveguide, and making the same interfere with each other; at least one first light receiving unit for receiving light output by the first light combining unit; at least one second light receiving unit for receiving light output by the second light combining unit; and a phase regulating unit provided on at least one of the first local light propagation waveguide or the second local light propagation waveguide. The first light branching unit and the second light branching unit are disposed such that the direction of propagation of the local light in the second light branching unit and the direction of propagation of the signal light in the first light branching unit are directions that face each other. The first light combining unit and the second light combining unit are disposed such that the propagation direction of the light output in the second light combining unit and the propagation direction of the light output in the first light combining unit are the same. All of the waveguides that propagate at least one of the signal light and the local light in the optical waveguide element are disposed such that the same do not overlap in a plane view with respect to the substrate.
