Abstract:
The present technology relates to a light receiving device, a histogram generation method, and a ranging system which enable a histogram generation circuit to be implemented with a small area and low power consumption. This light receiving device is provided with: a measurement unit which measures time information from a light emission timing of a light source to a light receiving timing at which a light receiving element receives the light; and a histogram generation circuit which generates a histogram which can accumulate, on the basis of the time information, N bits as a frequency value. The histogram generation circuit is provided with: a low-order bit generation unit which operates at a first speed and generates low-order bits among the N bits; and a high-order bit generation unit which operates at a second speed, which is slower than the first speed, and generates high-order bits among the N bits. The present technology can be applied to, for example, a ranging system which detects the distance to a subject in a depth direction.
