Abstract:
Provided are: a light source device that combines light with high efficiency; and an image display device. Provided is a light source device comprising: a first light source unit that emits light in a first wavelength range; a first illumination optical system to which the light in the first wavelength range is incident and which emits first illumination light; a second light source unit that emits light in a second wavelength range; a second illumination optical system to which the light in the second wavelength range is incident and which emits second illumination light; and a multiplexer to which the first illumination light and the second illumination light are incident, wherein the multiplexer has a characteristic of filtering the first illumination light on the basis of the wavelength range and the incident angle of the first illumination light and a characteristic of filtering the second illumination light on the basis of the wavelength range and the incident angle of the second illumination light, and angles at which the first illumination light and the second illumination light are incident to the multiplexer are adjusted such that the wavelength range of the first illumination light emitted from the multiplexer and the wavelength range of the second illumination light emitted from the multiplexer approach or overlap each other.
