Abstract:
One purpose of the present invention is to provide a light source device that can reduce wear on electrodes of a discharge lamp and improve the life of the discharge lamp if driving of the lamp is carried out in a state where there are power differences, as well as a projector using such a light source device. Another purpose of the present invention is to provide a projection system using such a projector. The light source device is characterized by the following: being provided with a discharge lamp that emits light, a discharge lamp drive unit that supplies to the discharge lamp drive current for driving the discharge lamp, and a control unit that controls the discharge lamp drive unit; the drive current waveform of the drive current has alternating first periods and second periods; the absolute value of the drive current during the first period is relatively smaller than the absolute value of the drive current during the second period; and during the first period, an alternating current of at least 750 MHz is provided to the discharge lamp as the drive current.
