Abstract:
Provided is a compact, high-luminance light source device that effectively uses dead space. The light source device incudes: an optical element (6) that comprises a columnar light guide in which one of two edge faces thereof is used as an incidence surface while the other edge face is used as an emission surface so that the light incident onto the incidence surface propagates inside the light guide and exits through the emission surface; a plurality of light sources (1a, 1b) that is disposed so as to surround the outer periphery of the light guide with each of the light sources emitting the same color light in a first direction opposite the emission direction of the emission surface; and a light return means (3a, 3b, 4a, 4b) that causes the light emitted from each of the plurality of light sources to return toward the emission direction and enter the incidence surface of the light guide.
